HEALTH & SAFETY INFORMATION

• IDLH: 10 mg[Ag]/m3 as metal dust.

• OSHA Table Z-1 Air Contaminant

• Inhalation of high levels of metallic silver vapors may cause pulmonary edema and lung damage. Inhalation of dust causes argyrosis. Chronic skin exposure will cause a blue-gray discoloration (argyria).

Exposure Limits:

• ACGIH TLV: metal: 0.1 mg[Ag]/m3 TWA; soluble compounds: 0.01 mg[Ag]/m3 TWA

• OSHA PEL/NIOSH REL: metal, dust, and soluble compounds: 0.01 mg[Ag]/m3 TWA

• DFG MAK: silver: 0.1 mg[Ag]/m3 salts: 0.01 mg[Ag]/m3

Respirator: 0.25 mg/m3: SA:CF (any supplied-air respirator operated in a continuous-flow mode) PAPRHiE (any powered, air-purifying respirator with a high-efficiency particulate filter). 0.5 mg/m3: HiEF (any air-purifying, full-facepiece respirator with a highefficiency particulate filter) SCBAF (any selfcontained breathing apparatus with a full facepiece) SAF (any supplied-air respirator with a full facepiece). 10 mg/m3: SAF:PD,PP (any supplied-air respirator that has a full facepiece and is operated in a pressuredemand or other positive-pressure mode). Note: Substance causes eye irritation or damage; eye protection needed. Emergency or Planned Entry into Unknown Concentrations or IDLH Conditions SCBAF:PD,PP (any self-contained breathing apparatus that has a full facepiece and is operated in a pressuredemand or other positive-pressure mode) SAF:PD,PP:ASCBA (any supplied-air respirator that has a full facepiece and is operated in a pressuredemand or other positive-pressure mode in combination with an auxiliary self-contained breathing apparatus operated in a pressure-demand or other positive-pressure mode).

Escape: HiEF (any airpurifying, full-facepiece respirator with a highefficiency particulate filter) SCBAE (any appropriate escape-type, self-contained breathing apparatus).

Reactivity: Forms an explosive compounds with acetylene or ethyleneimine. Reaction with ammonia, hydrogenperoxide, bromoazide, chlorine trifluoride, oxalic acid, or tartaric acid may be violent.

FIRE INFORMATION

Noncombustible solid, but dust or powder is flammable. If material or contaminated runoff enters waterways, notify downstream users of potentially contaminated water.

FIRST AID: Eye: If this chemical contacts the eyes, immediately wash them with large amounts of water, occasionally lifting the lower and upper lids. Get medical attention immediately. Contact lenses should not be worn when working with this chemical. Skin: If this chemical contacts the skin, immediately wash the contaminated skin with soap and water. If this chemical penetrates the clothing, immediately remove clothing, wash the skin with soap and water, and get medical attention promptly. Inhalation: If a person breathes large amounts of this chemical, move exposed person  to fresh air at once. If breathing has stopped, perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Keep the affected person warm and at rest. Get medical attention as soon as possible. Ingested: If this chemical has been swallowed, get medical attention immediately.
