HEALTH & SAFETY INFORMATION

• OSHA Table Z-1 Air Contaminant (fibrous form)

• Inhalation of high concentrations of dusts may cause irritation of the eyes and upper respiratory tract. Long term exposure may effect the central nervous system Exposure is usually accompanied by exposure to silicates and iron compounds that are often linked to respiratory diseases, including emphysema. Repeated exposure to high levels may cause pulmonary fibrosis with shortness of breath; this condition can be fatal.

Exposure Limits: TWA

• ACGIH TLV: 10 mg[Al]/m3 TWA, not classifiable as a human carcinogen, the value for inhalable (total) particulate matter containing no asbestos and < 1% crystallinesilica.

• NIOSH REL: 10 mg[Al]/m3 (total); 5 mg[Al]/m3 (respirable fraction)

• OSHA PEL: 15 mg[Al]/m3 (total); 5 mg[Al]/m3 (respirable fraction)

• DFG MAK: 1.5 mg/m3 respirable fraction (previously “fine dust”); 4 mg/m3 inhalable fraction (previously “total dust”); BAT: 200 μ g[Al]/L in urine, end of shift

Respirator: At any concentrations above the NIOSH REL, or where there is no REL, at any detectable concentration: SCBAF:PD,PP (any self-contained breathing apparatus that has a full facepiece and is operated in a pressure-demand or other positive pressure mode) P SAF:PD,PP:ASCBA (any suppliedair respirator that has a full facepiece and is operated in a pressure-demand or other positive-pressure mode in combination with an auxiliary self-contained breathing apparatus operated in a pressure-demand or other positive-pressure mode). Escape: GMFOV (any airpurifying, full-facepiece respirator (gas mask) with a chin-style, front- or back-mounted organic vapor canister) P SCBAE (any appropriate escape-type, selfcontained breathing apparatus).

Reactivity: Reacts violently with chlorine trifluoride and may cause violent polymerization of ethylene oxide. Reacts slowly with water to form aluminum.

FIRE INFORMATION: If material or contaminated runoff enters waterways, notify downstream users of potentially contaminated water.

Hazard Classifications:

Health Hazard (Blue) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0

Flammability (Red) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0

Reactivity (Yellow) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0

FIRST AID: EYE: If this chemical contacts the eyes, immediately wash the eyes with large amounts of water, occasionally lifting the lower and upper lids. Get medical attention immediately. Contact lenses should not be worn when working with this chemical. Skin: If this chemical contacts the skin, immediately wash the contaminated skin with soap and water. If this chemical penetrates the clothing, immediately remove clothing, wash the skin with soap and water, and get medical attention promptly. Inhalation: If a person breathes large amounts of this chemical move exposed person to fresh air at once. If breathing has stopped, perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Keep the affected person warm and at rest. Get medical attention as soon as possible. Ingested: If this chemical has been swallowed, get medical attention immediately.

ENVIRONMENTAL REGULATIONS

• EPCRA Section 313: (Reportable in fibrous forms only): Form R de minimis concentration reporting level: 1.0%

• California LOL: DGM

• WHMIS, Ingredients Disclosure List (Canada): 1%
