Properties:
Varies;
uncured resins can be solid or thick liquids. Cured resins are solid polymers.
Uses:
Surface
coatings; cements and mortars; metal and ceramics adhesive; in casting and die
making; encapsulating electrical parts; making rigid foams.
HEALTH & SAFETY INFORMATION
•
Most cured resins have very low or no toxicity. Uncured resins and hardeners
can cause various problems including poisoning, eye and skin irritation, and
sensitization. The toxicity of uncured epoxy resins may vary, and is a function
of the amount of un-reacted curing agents present. Curing agents of epoxy
resins are flammable liquids; their volatility is relatively low. When heated
to decomposition epoxy resins discharge acrid smoke and highly toxic fumes.
Respirator:
NIOSH,
uncured.
At any
concentrations above the NIOSH REL, or where there is no REL, at any detectable
concentration:
SCBAF:PD,PP
(any selfcontained breathing apparatus that has a full facepiece and is
operated in a pressure-demand or other positivepressure mode) SAF:PD,PP:ASCBA
(any suppliedair respirator that has a full facepiece and is operated in a
pressure-demand or other positive-pressure mode in combination with an auxiliary
self-contained breathing apparatus operated in a pressure-demand or other
positive-pressure mode).
Escape:
GMFOV
[any airpurifying, full-facepiece respirator (gas mask) with a chin-style,
front- or back-mounted organic vapor canister] SCBAE (any appropriate
escape-type, selfcontained breathing apparatus).
Reactivity:
Contact
with heat or fire may cause toxic and irritating fumes. Some materials may not
be compatible with strong acids, ammonia, and isocyanates.
FIRST AID:
Eye:
If this chemical contacts
the eyes, immediately wash the eyes with large amounts of water, occasionally
lifting the lower and upper lids. Get medical attention immediately.
Skin:
If this chemical contacts the skin,
immediately wash the contaminated skin with soap and water. If this chemical
penetrates the clothing, immediately remove clothing, wash the skin with soap
and water, and get medical attention promptly.
Inhalation:
If a person breathes fumes from this chemical
move exposed person to fresh air at once. If breathing has stopped, perform
mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Keep the affected person warm and at rest. Get
medical attention as soon as possible.
Ingested:
If this chemical has been
swallowed, get medical attention immediately.
