HEALTH & SAFETY INFORMATION

• Criteria Document : NIOSH 78-173 KETONES

• Vapors cause severe irritation of eyes and throat and can cause eye and lung injury. They cannot be tolerated even at low concentrations. Liquid causes severe skin irritant. Causes second and  third degree burns on short contact and is very injurious to the eyes. Permanent damage may occur.

Exposure Limits:

• ACGIH TLV: 0.2 ppm/1.5 mg/m3, ceiling limit

• OSHA PEL: None

• NIOSH REL: 0.2 ppm/1.5 mg/m3 ceiling limit

• DFG: MEKP (40%) has a very severe effect on skin.

Respirator: At any concentrations above the NIOSH REL, or where there is no REL, at any detectable concentration: SCBAF:PD,PP (any self-contained breathing apparatus that has a full  facepiece and is operated in a pressure-demand or other positivepressure mode) SAF:PD,PP:ASCBA (any suppliedair respirator that has a full facepiece and is operated in a pressure-demand or other positive-pressure mode in combination with an auxiliary self-contained breathing apparatus operated in a pressure-demand or other positive-pressure mode).

Escape: GMFOV [any airpurifying, full-facepiece respirator (gas mask) with a chin-style, front- or back-mounted organic vapor canister] SCBAE (any appropriate escape-type, selfcontained

breathing apparatus). Reactivity: Forms explosive mixture with air. Explosive decomposition above 176°F/80°C. Pure substance is shock-sensitive. Strong oxidizer. Violent reaction with strong acids, strong bases, reducing agents, combustible substances, organic materials, oxides of heavy metals, salts, trace contaminants, and amines. May accumulate static electrical charges; may cause ignition of its vapors.

FIRE INFORMATION: If material or contaminated runoff enters waterways, notify downstream users of potentially contaminated water. Flash Point: 125–200°F (52–93°C) (oc); 180°F (82°C) (cc) (60% MEKP).

FIRST AID: Move victim to fresh air. Call emergency medical care. Apply artificial respiration if victim is not breathing. Administer oxygen if breathing is difficult. Remove and isolate   contaminated clothing and shoes. Remove material from skin immediately. In case of contact with substance, immediately flush skin or eyes with running water for at least 20 minutes. Keep victim warm and quiet. Ensure that medical personnel are aware of the material(s) involved, and take precautions to protect themselves.
